Restaurants & Dieting

Question

How can I go out to eat in restaurants whilst still on a diet. It's so difficult to stick to a diet when I go out to a restaurant with my friends. I don t want to fill like the odd one out when everyone else is ordering delicious items on the menu.

Answer

Yes diets and restaurants do not normally go together very well. It's always difficult to strike a happy medium when ordering food in restaurants. However it is certainly possible to strike a happy balance so you can still eat out on a regular basis in the best restaurants in town, this is my advice:

Save a few calories for later

If you are planning to go out to a restaurant then try and plan a few days in advance and hold back on the calories a little in advance of your meal later in the week.

What foods to Stay away from:

Stay clear of all the deep fried dishes as well as cheeses, cream sauces and pastries, these are all generally very high in calories and its best to stay clear of these.

You could save an extra 1000 calories by avoiding the bread basket and the butter dish. Also stay clear of olives in oil, salad dressings, cream on your desert and of course chocolates at the end of a meal.

Do what the celebrities do!

Do what the celebrities do and ask the chef to alter your dish to your personal circumstances, do not think this is something that should not be asked for. It's very common to request certain modifications to the dish that's been ordered, so go ahead and change it a bit the chef will be happy to change it for you.

Other variations may be as simple as ordering extra vegetables instead of potatoes or grilled rather than pan fried or may be asking for something that is not on the menu.

Other very simple ways of saving a few calories at the restaurant is to maybe order 1 course instead of a 3 course meal or perhapes 2 starters and use one as a main course meal.

Some of the foods that may be good choices for a starter include:

Melon, soup such as vegetable, smoked salmon or a fresh salad with balsamic vinegar rather than a oily dressing.

Main Courses, food to go for should include meat, fish and chicken preferably grilled, maybe accompanied by a fresh salad. Stay away from creamy sauces and chips especially!

Deserts, well this is the difficult one because pretty much everything will be high in calories. A couple of options may be a fruit salad or sorbet, and finally stay away from the cheese board no matter how tempting this may be. Coffee: Try to keep it black no sugar if at all possible.

Drinks, I don't need to tell you water is the best thing so try to keep a glass next to you throughout the meal. As your companions drink there alcoholic beverages you are safe in the knowledge that you won't be pilling on the pounds.

Quiting Smoking & Weight Loss

Question

After giving up smoking recently I have continued to put on loads of weight. It seems that giving up smoking means that you instantly put weight on. How can I give up smoking and lose weight at the same time? It does seem an impossible task at the moment. If you have any advise then please tell me what I need to do.

Answer

Well firstly let me congratulate you for giving up smoking, this really is a major achievement and you should be congratulated. I think if you had to choose out of giving up smoking or losing weight then it has to be the smoking I think but ideally both!

The weight gain issue is very common with people who have given up smoking this is normally due to smokers regaining there taste buds and food tastes nice all of a sudden and so the new non smokers now have taste buds again and they have to find an alternative habit to smoking and food easily falls into this requirement.

So how do you combine the two and lose weight whilst giving up smoking. Well you need to monitor every single piece of food you eat over a 7 day period, write all of this down and after 7 days the results will amaze you in as much as you will see how much of certain foods and liquids you are consuming. Instantly cut these out or reduce them significantly.

Once you have started to clearly see your intake you will need to burn off the unwanted fat around your body and revive your metabolism so it starts to burn the broken down fat molecules. A daily course of Fat Blockers will kick start this off for you and should get you well on the way to kicking the smoking habit and looking slim at the same time. Good Luck.

Question

I have been taking Fat Blockers for 8 weeks now, my target weight is 2 stone 4 lbs but it seem s this last bit I have to lose it taking for ages, in fact I don't think I am going to reach my target weight. Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

This is very common with people who are successfully losing weight. Notice I said successfully because that is what you are doing and you should be congratulated for the weight you have lost so far (by the way you did not actually say what your target weight was?). However the stage you are at is known as the wall and its a stage where your body is almost rebelling against you and saying no I don't want to lose any more weight thank you very much!

Perhaps your body is just adapting to a sudden change in weight loss and it goes into a catch up mode where by it is just trying to work out its new fitter leaner healthier body. The fact is no one really knows why this happens. However good news is just around the corner and most people find that the pounds start to shift after a period of time. So the main answer to your question is that keep with the course of Fat Blockers, keep the diet plan going and all will be ok - it just may take a bit longer for some of us than others.

If at anytime during these spells you start to fill dizzy or nauseous then stop taking the Fat Blockers and re adjust your diet to a more filling diet. We would also advise you at this time to consult a medical expert for there opinion before continuing with this course.
